Chevre, this week’s parsha is שְׁלַח לְׁךָ (Shlach - Lecha). This week we have a clear example of how not to do “Have Backbone, Disagree and Commit”. First Moshe sends the scouts, 1 from each tribe, promenent men. Yehoshua, later, sends only 2 scouts in a military type operation. When they come back, they do not report back to him, but he puts them on a pedestal and has them tell the whole nation what they saw, without having vetted what they were going to say first. The Nations do not usually get to hear all the intel that is brought back from spies. Only when Bibi needs to show up on the public stage against Iran. So the disagree should not be done publicly, but in an open and professional discussion. Then HaKadosh Baruch Hu, states that they will spend the next 40 years in the desert and only Calev and Yehoshua will be allowed to go up to Eretz Yisrael. Only then, after receiving the punishment, THEN a group tries to go up to Eretz Yisrael and are struck down by Amalek. So this is the opposite of commit. The decision was made and you can’t change it. Now it’s too late, you need to get on board for the good of the Nation here. Shabbat Shalom
