Ekev - 2024

Chevre, this week’s parsha is Ekev (עֵקֶב). This week has a lot of reminders. Follow the rules so you can live an increase. Don’t forget HaShem when you become prosperous. Don’t forget leaving Egypt and the obstacles you faced. Receiving the Ark and the 2nd Tablets. Being there for miracles like the splitting of the Sea of Reeds.

We then have the 2nd part of the Shema we say twice (at least) daily. Follow the commandments and I will provide for you. Teach them to your children. While you sit at home and while on your way. Write them on the doorposts of your house and gates (Mezuzot).

What all these things are telling me are that you should not forget your lessons learned. You have experience (you as The Jewish People), don’t forget them. Teach them to the next generations so they can avoid (some?) of your mistakes. How many times have we seen computer programming languages with problems that others fixed years ago? How many times have I seen a cloud environment that makes the same mistake as others. It’s our job to do our best to distribute the knowledge that we worked so hard to gain. Not for ourselves, but for others to learn from and avoid the same mistakes.

I personally went through an interesting experiment over the last couple of weeks. In the end, it worked, but was not cost effective. So I left the project up with a disclaimer that it was too costly. https://github.com/dubrowin/Immich-backed-by-S3
