Balak - 2025

Chevre, this week’s parsha is Balak (בלק). Balak was the king of Moab and they saw what happened to the Amorites and were afraid. So Balak went to a prophet Bilaam to request Bilaam to curse Am Yisrael. Bilaam refused several times until finally saying I can only say what G-d puts in my mouth. Every time Bilaam went to curse Am Yisrael, he blessed them. Eventually, Moab brought sin down upon Am Yisrael through the immoral acts Am Yisrael did with Moab’s daughters.

AWS tries to protect customers from poor configurations as much as possible, but it’s up to the customer to decide how to use the AWS services. Through best practices and making it several clicks to push a configuration like a Public S3 bucket, it is still possible. This is because there are always use cases for these cases, but the most common use of this configuration is in error. So it’s still possible to use this configuration, you just have to be motivated and decisive that this is the right option. Like the decision made by some of Am Yisrael at the end of the parsha.

Yesterday was a tough day for me. I live in Gush Etzion and we had the terrorist attack yesterday. And then we went to a wedding. To get to the wedding, we had to pass the sight of the attack. It’s still surreal going from such negative feelings to such joyous feelings in the span of 2 km and a few minutes. May we all see better times soon.

Shabbat Shalom.
