Chevre, this week’s parsha is Tazria-Metzora (תזריע-מצורע). This week’s parsha dives deep into the subject of impurity. Of people, objects and houses. Some of the things described could almost come out of a medical journal. And the gemara often takes these topics into the medical area, at least the medical areas known at the time of the compilation of the gemara and the discussions in it.
For me, I look at these like looking at problems in my systems. Often a problem comes down to 1 thing. Maybe it’s a < instead of a > or a > instead of a ». (This is what I ran across this morning). And being able to discern the expected output against the retrieved output and why that might have happened helps us gain the understanding of the problem.
In the realm of purity, we learn how we are supposed to be pure and what we can do to fix it. There is an idea that purity and impurity as to be connected with misbehavior. So we can take a deep look at what we do, how we treat others and ourselves and look to improve the world around us.
Our son was telling us about 2 ways that someone can improve themselves, I believe from Mesillat Yesharim. Someone can talk down to others and thus raising themself up at the expense of others. Or someone can work on themselves to improve themselves and raise themselves up and those around them. We should strive for the 2nd method.
May we all find the errors of our ways and work to improve ourselves for good and find those bugs in the code. Shabbat Shalom
