Chevre, this week’s parsha is Vayikra (ויקרא). First off, I need to appologize that this is coming out much later than normal. I ran the 1/2 Marathon this morning in Jerusalem with my son. He finished a full hour before me.
We have discussed many times that Vayikra puts down the laws needed for the operation of the Mishkan now that it was built at the end of Sefer Shemot. One of the laws that stood out to me today is the law about when the entire congregation sins. This happens when the whole community does something wrong. Everyone needs to participate in the sin offering.
Just like in software, when everyone relies on 1 maintainer (I’m thinking curl), then when there is any kind of problem (aka sin) everyone must contribute to the resolution. Ideally, our software dependencies would be more reliable and distributed, but there often ends up being a software library or product that is entirely dependent on 1 or a few people.
We learn from this that we, as a community, need to act and contribute better towards the resiliency and distribution of our dependent software. Shabbat Shalom.
