Terumah - 2026

Chevre, this week’s parsha is Terumah (תרומה). We now get into the instructions for building the Mishkan (The Tabernacle) which is sometimes referred to as the portable Mount Sinai because the holiness that was present at Sinai is now invested into different pieces of the Mishkan.

There is a Midrash that Moshe had to tell the people to stop bringing valuables to donate to the Mishkan. This is like if I asked AWS for an EC2 instance and it didn’t only give me what I asked for, but it gave me 3 of them and much bigger than I needed and all for the price of the single little one that I asked for.

There is generally an idea (from the Mishnah) that there is no limit to chesed or gemilut chasadim (same root as chesed). While generally that is true, here we see that there was a situation that the chesed overwhelmed (buffer overflow) the receivers.

I bless you that you should all be givers of chesed and receivers of the right levels of chesed and that our gemilut chasadim should help the world keep turning and making the world a better place for everyone.

Shabbat Shalom
