Mishpatim - 2024

Chevre, this week’s parsha is Mishpatim (מִשְׁפָּטִים). Last week Am Yisrael received the 10 Commandments which represent the whole Torah. This week, we have a bunch of these laws in short bites (bytes?) one after the other. These are some of the important details on running a just society. And we know that some of the details are super important. In the programming world, missing a comma (,) or a semicolon (; ) can significantly change a program. In the cloud world, missing 1 little detail can have serious implications. The first example that comes to mind is having a publicly available S3 bucket. Or when I was setting up an S3 bucket as the source for CloudFront to make my website, the bucket name is important to make the CloudFront to S3 connection work properly. Here too, we have details on a just society some details around murder and manslaughter, personal injury, buying and selling of property, destruction or damage of property, etc. It is important to have a clear understanding up front of what is or is not allowed and how the rules of society work. In AWS this comes across as the shared responsibility model. Shabbat Shalom
