VaYeshev - 2024

Chevre, this week’s parsha is VaYeshev (וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב). This week’s parsha has a bunch of dreams and then the circuitous route that events took folks to the fruition of those dreams. Actually, this week we only have the start of the fulfillment of those dreams.

Yosef has 2 dreams with the sheaves bowing to the central sheaf followed by the stars, the moon and sun bowing to him. And at the end of the parsha we have the baker and the cupbearer dreams.

Throughout this parsha and the upcoming parsha, these dreams come to life. Yosef is hated by his brothers for his dreams, is sold into slavery in Egypt, spends some time running the house of Potiphar. But then because Yosef won’t bow to the whims of Potiphar’s wife, he is sent to prison. This is where he meets the baker and cupbearer and hears about their dreams.

Workloads on AWS start with a vision (or a dream). We then need to take those ideas, test them out, build them up and get them to work. This design, build, test and putting into production can often take a circuitous route to fruition. And once they are built we may need to add resliency, features, modify for cost or optimization benefits. And every once in a while, AWS releases new features or products that would make our workload better, cheaper and/or easier to operate. So we need to start the cycle again, at least partially.

Having a goal or direction is important. Having that dream or vision is equally important. These are the things that help drive us to excel, overcome, and outgrow our current limits. May we all find the positive driving forces within ourselves. Shabbat Shalom.
