Chevre, this week’s parsha is Ki Tisa (כי תשא) and today is Purim. The major action in this week’s parsha is The Sin of the Golden Calf and the fact that we can repent.
The parsha, however, is very much overshadowed this week by Purim, which is Friday and Sunday (in walled cities like Jerusalem). On Purim we read Megillat Esther, which is shrowded in mystery. The Megilla is read as a leader, but the trope changes at specific points based on what is happening in the story. The king appears to be very wishy washy and focussed on what his people think about him. It turns out that Vashti, the wife he kills early on, was the royal and he was able to become king through her. So having her killed took away her ability to remove him from power. There are many more hidden details and meaning in The Megillah.
Becky Weiss pointed out this week on an internal AWS Slack channel that it is the 19th birthday of S3 today (Pi Day), the first production AWS service. And someone else pointed that if S3 is 19 then it was born on Purim 19 years ago. I verified this using the HebCal website. So S3 is 19 and was born on Purim. I’m sure there is a hidden meaning, but I haven’t started drinking alcohol yet, so I haven’t figured out that hidden meaning.
Therefore, in the spirit of backwardsness (Afoku), I encourage others to reply to my Dvar Torah with how they think S3 is connected with Purim or Ki Tisa.
