Yom Kippur - 2025

Chevre, we have arrived at Yom Kippur. While this is the peak of the Teshuva season, it’s not the end. We say LeDavid (Psalm 27) from Rosh Chodesh Elul (a month before Rosh Hashanah) until Hoshanah Rabbah (the last day of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah is a different holiday). And we know that the doors to repentance are always open. As I sit here now, I just came back from shul, we said the last of Selichot and we aren’t saying Tachanun (penitential prayers). And I’m thinking, as we say in Avinu Malchenu, I have nothing, I’m not worthy. My mind is a blank. And so from this place, I humbly request forgiveness (Mechila) if I did or said something, or failed to do or say something, that hurt any of you. Tonight, like the rest of the Jewish World, I’ll put on white and my tallit (which says עִבְדוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָה בְּשִׂמְחָה, Serve HaShem in Joy) and I’ll do my best to do the hard work that is the davening of Yom Kippur.

Bezrat HaShem, I’ll be writing to you all again on Friday. Shanah Tovah, Gemar Chatimah Tovah.
