Chevre, this week’s parsha is בְּרֵאשִׁית (Beresheit). There are volumes written about this parsha, but what struck me this year is that it’s iterative. Meaning, the story about the creation of Eve is described twice. We see later that the 10 commanments are given twice as well. The sages actually tell us that us that before Beresheit there were many iterations. So we see that HaShem iterates, just like a developer does. We are seeing his cloudformation template here in the parsha. We’ll see other iterations in the next few weeks as we go through the story of Noah and the Tower of Bavel as we get toward the place where the world is sustainable. Now what’s truly remarkable is the role of the Yisrael in these iterations. The iterations over time become smaller (not recreating the world, destorying all of humanity, and dispersing humanity around the world), but the sages see our role in this process as doing tikunim or fixes. So as we go around this world and help each other we are fixing small things int he cloudformation template and making the world better for everyone. May we all have the privilege of finding the fix that is in the template for us and making the repair in the world. Shabbat Shalom
