Chevra, this week’s parsha is מִשְׁפָּטִים (Mishpatim). There is a phrase in English, “the devil is in the details”. Now that the Torah has been given, there is a laundry list of rules. Toward the end of the parsha is when Am Yisrael says “נעשה ונשמע” We will do and we will listen (or obey). Many people who jump into development and into the cloud start to do and then start to learn the details of what they are doing. In some cases, this is less of a problem (think SQS), but many have specific details about how to use them or how to debug them (think EC2 and Lambda). And for all of them, the pricing is important (at the end of the day, I’m still a TAM). And the details of how to use a service in a cost optimized way is changing (even as late as last night with Service Plans on Lambda). So what the Torah is telling us here, is that when it comes to the spiritual realm, it’s better to jump in, do your best and from that experience learn the best way forward. For many people, this is how they learn technology as well, but they need to keep an eye (with AWS Budgets) on the costs. May we all make technological and spiritual strides. Shabbat Shalom.
