Chevre, there is no parsha this week. Instead this Shabbat is completely dedicated to Rosh Hashanah.
There is a prayer we say during Selichot and in the Machzor (at least in Ashkenazi) called שמע קולינו (Hear our Voice). There is a line that states: “השיבינו ה׳ אליך חדש ימינו כקדם” Lead us back to you Hashem and we shall find the way back, renew our days as of old. Renew our days of old when we could hug each other without fear of dying. Renew our days of old when we could go into our neighbors homes for a meal. Renew our days of old when we could sit next to each other in the synagogue or the office. Renew our days of old when we didn’t wear masks. We have versioning configured on our S3 buckets and have MFA for delete setup, let us roll back to the start of this year when things were “normal”.
I’m also including last years message, an oldie, but a goodie.
Rosh Hashanah - 2020 is Yom HaDin. It is the coronation of HaKadosh Baruch Hu. Yom HaDin can seem confusing since it’s also a holiday and we eat and bless each other for a sweet new year. I think of it like S3 Bucket Security. There are IAM permissions and there are Bucket permissions, but the actual security is the 2 together. Rosh Hashanah has the dichotomy of both Yom HaDin and being the new year. If we look at the בְּראֹשׁ הַשָּׁנָה prayer [1] from the Machzor, we can see the Din part of Rosh Hashanah, but there is also the light at the end of the tunnel in the last line, we have a hope about how to change the fate that is written on this awesome day. I bless you all, and please bless me back, that you should all be written in The Book of Life. Shanah Tovah uMetukah.
