Chevre, this week’s parsha is חֻקַּת (Chukat). This week we have the death of Miriam, Moshe’s sister. After she passes the water no longer flows for the Bnei Israel in the desert. We then have the story of Moshe striking the rock (like he did in the past) instead of speaking to the rock, like he was told to do. So the water flows, the people are saved, but Moshe gets in trouble. In Israel, water is a very precious comodity and I learned recently that most of Israel’s water comes from desalination and that with the completion of the new plants currently under construction 85-90% of the municiple water will come from desalination. During re:Invent 2020, the world learned that Amazon/AWS have a whole department that deals with water to make sure the data centers get cooled and that the water that is used can be reused afterwards. In Israel we are no longer reliant on rain water or the Jordan river, which can be diverted up stream, but on the technology that we have developed and built and on the technologies that will be built in the upcoming region (no, we’re not excited at all ;-) ). Shabbat Shalom
