Chevre, this week’s parsha in Israel is בְּחֻקֹּתַי (Bechukotai). This week we finish the book of Vayikra which is the book of instructions for the priests. The majority of this week’s parsha is around blessing and curses. If we do what is proper, follow AWS best practices, then good things will happen like automatic scaling and failovers. If we do not do what is proper, then we could get surprise bills or outages. Another interesting topic that is covered is the Jubilee year. This is the concept that every 50 years the land returns to the original owners and loans are forgiven. In modern times, we don’t know when the Jubilee would be because we don’t know from when to start counting the years. We do, however, have Shemita which we are going through this year. Shemita is the 7 year cycle of allowing the fields to lie fallow. The expectation is that by following the rules, HaShem will take care of us by providing a bountiful 6th year. The produce that is created in Shemita, without direct planting, is considered holy and we take extra careful care of it. Blessed are those who get to take advantage of the Shemita Holiness we can enjoy in Israel.
On a personal note, it was so great to be back at the Tel Aviv Summit this week and see so many people in person and on Lag BeOmer. Shabbat Shalom.
