Masei - 2022

Chevre, this week’s parsha, in Israel, is מַסְעֵי (Masei). This is the week that the rest of the world reads Matot-Masei and we all finish Sefer BaMidbar this week. We have a summary of the journeys in the desert, there are instructions for when entering the land of Israel, the boundaries of the land, a review of who will be the leaders, we have the Cities of Refuge for accidental murder and a discussion of Tribal Intermarriage and inheritance. This is the end of the journey and the Bnei Yisrael are at the Jordan about to cross over. The succession has been decided and the shared responsibility model has been declared and explained. It’s now up to the next generation to take the people to the next level. We know from The Book of Prophets that this was very hit and miss, but by sticking to the Leadership Principles, eventually the nation will come together and succeed in a dangerous neighborhood at the crossroads of several empires (Egypt vs Babylon, Rome vs Persia, The Middle East vs Western Democracies). Throughout it all, it is our job to stick with the rules laid out in the Torah and do our best to make the world a better place. Shabbat Shalom
