Chevre, this week’s parsha is מִקֵּץ (Miketz), Chanukah and Rosh Chodesh. This week we learn about Pharaoh’s dream and Yosef is able to interpret the dream and offers advice about how to deal with it. I’m late in getting my Dvar Torah out because I’m in the US (New England) and we are bracing for a different kind of environmental event. Egypt was bracing for a famine, but had Pharaoh’s dream to warn them. In the US this week, we have the weather people to tell us about what has been happening in the West of the country as it moves east. It reminds me about my last job where I worked on TV systems, which could be considered critical infrastructure. While we had a saying “it’s just TV”, in an event like today, the TV news is critical. And we definitely had emergency announcement systems. Yosef was Pharaoh’s weather man, interpreting the signals from HaShem as to what would be happening. And Yosef’s being in Egypt ahead of his family is what enabled them to move to Egypt to ride out the storm. This Shabbat also is Chanukah and Rosh Chodesh. So Shabbat Shalom, Chanukah Sameach and Chodesh Tov. May you all stay safe and enjoy this special Shabbat.
