Chevre, this week’s parsha is תזריע (Tazria). This week’s parsha is mostly about an affliction (not really a disease) called Tzarat. We’ve discussed this in the past, Tzarat is an affliction of Tumah (ritual purity, but not cleanliness). When Moshe stuck his hand in his shirt and brought it out white, that was Tzarat and Miriam gets afflicted with it when she spoke poorly about Moshe and he prayed for her to be healed. You can’t get Tzarat from eating gefilta fish and there is no CloudWatch metric to measure or see it. Only the Cohen (priest) can declare you impure from it. And before the holidays (3 Aliyot LeRegel) they refrained from inspecting people so they would be pure for the holidays. Tzarat is often considered with leprousy, but that is a real disease and Tzarat is not. So it’s another mysterious thing from the Torah for us to think about. Kinda like how we learn bits and pieces of how AWS builds and runs their services, little by little, we learn more. May we all have a quiet and peaceful Shabbat. Shabbat Shalom.
