Vayakel - 2022

Chevra, this week’s parsha is  וַיַקְהֵל (Vayakel) and it’s Parsha Shekalim. As I mentioned last week, Shekalim is the parsha that reminds us that in the near future we will be contribuing our 1/2 shekel to The Temple for use in communal offerings. This is the first of the special parshiot leading up to Passover/Pesach. So you can think of it as the beginning of the countdown. The prasha, Vayakel, starts with Shabbat. Throughout the generations, it has been said that Shabbat kept the Jewish People as much as the Jewish People have kept Shabbat. In modern times there are folks who take a break from screens and technology every once in a while. Here we have a “forced” version of that disconnect from technology. We spend time with friends and family, read paper books or newspapers. It’s a time to slow down from the busy week. Working in the cloud and using the cloud for my own workloads makes me extra happier on Shabbat. I no longer have a pile of machines in the house humming away. Having my workloads in the cloud brings me peace of mind and less worries. Shabbat Shalom.
