Chevre, this week’s parsha is צַו (Tzav) and Shabbat HaGadol. Shabbat HaGadol is the Shabbat before Passover/Pesach. This is the Shabbat traditionally that the Rav of the community will address everyone on Shabbat afternoon. We love our Rav, but often joke that we need a bingo card to mark off the jokes he tells every year. This week’s parsha is a lot about the sacrifices and the sanctification of the Cohanim (Priests). But there is 1 section that talks about the fire on the outside alter. It states that there should always be a fire there and there are actually 3 fires on the alter for different purposes. Since there always needs to be a fire, having 3 is like deploying to 3 AZs for high availability (HA). When you need to always have something available, have a bunch of them. HA from the temple going back a few thousand years. In today’s modern synagogue we have the eternal light that is in front of the Holy Ark. This eternal light is the modern representation of the continuous fire in The Temple and it’s placement in front of the Ark is similar to the Altar’s placement outside and in front of the Temple building. I bless you all, and please bless me back, for a peaceful Shabbat and a Happy and Kosher Pesach. Shabbat Shalom.
