Chevre, this week’s parsha is Vayigash (וַיִּגַשׁ). We continue where we left off last week. Yosef, as the Egyptian Prime Minister, has accused Binyanim of theft and says he’ll go to jail. Judah, the one who sold Yosef into slavery and who also promised his father Binyamin would come home, steps up with a speach. He mentions a few key points. First, that Yosef caused some of this when he demanded that Binyamin be brought down. Second, that Yaakov is still mourning the loss of his son, Yosef. Until now Yosef may have thought Yaakov had known aobut Yosef being sold into slavery. And Third, Yehuda offers himself in Binyamin’s place. The Teshuvah of Judah is complete, we have seen him grow up from an MVP product to a fully resilient and stable platform.
And this is when Yosef reveals himself to the brothers. And they are dumbstruck and afraid. They sold him into slavery and he ended up as the number 2 person in charge of a super power of their time. Yosef gives the brothers some of the choicest land for their sheep. And they send for Yaakov to come to Egypt. In this case, the grass was greener on the other side and the automatic failover to another region was a success.
Am Yisrael Chai. Shabbat Shalom.
