Yom Kippur - 2023

Chevre, tonight and tomorrow is יוֹם†הַכִפֻּרִים (Yom Kippur). This morning, I was listening to Rav Sacks talking about the fascinating history of Kol Nidre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WHsgs_YBWE One thing he said is that while Kol Nidre has historically been very emotional with the music we put to it, the words themselves is like a business contract. It’s like if we took the AWS EULA (End User License Agreement) and put it to happy or somber music. What made Kol Nidre so powerful is because of the hidden or forcibly converted Jews. They would risk coming to Yom Kippur services at night and would plead with HaShem to accept their true intentions that they only “converted” in order to live. May this Yom Kippur be meaningful to all of Am Yisrael and lead to a sweet and happy year. Gemar Chatimah Tovah
